"Charlotte Gray" by Sebastian Faulks

Just finished reading this book last night and I highly recommend it.
It takes place during WWII. Charlotte Gray is a young Scottish woman who is fluent in French.
She is recruited as a courier and maybe more, to work with the resistance in France. Her new lover, an RAF pilot, is M.I.A. in France and Charlotte takes it upon herself to try and find him.
She has issues with her father, a pshychiatrist and a WWI veteran, that still haunt her. She takes a job in France with an older Jewish man who has converted to Catholicism. He is also a WWI veteran and his son is in the resistance. Charlotte sees close up what is happening to the Jews.
Sebastian Faulks is an excellent writer and this book is worth a read.

4. I watched the film this past weekend...Once again, the book is far better

The movie left out many important parts of the book, i.e. Charlotte's relationship with her father and also what was going with Peter Gregory while he was in France. They changed the ending too!
The indepth conversations she had with her father, the elderly "jewish" man she worked for in France and Peter Gregory were no where to be seen/heard in the film.
Cate does a good job of acting the part as written. The screenplay diverges and left far to much out to portray the essence of the novel.
