GOING WRONG (Ruth Rendell Mysteries). I just finished watching it. POSSIBLE SPOILERS.

I’ve read the book several times. The way Rendell presents events from Guy Curran’s point of view is masterful. His thinking, if convoluted, is understandable.

The TV movie followed the book pretty faithfully. There were some changes for simplicity’s sake, such as the elimination of some peripheral characters. Guy seemed to me more dangerous and aggressive in the movie than in the book (Maybe because seeing it has more of an impact.). Celeste seemed more assertive than in the book, and put up with less crap from Guy. Leonora came across more unfavorably than in the book.

I wonder about Leonora’s motivation. Was she, as her mother claimed, placating Guy by having lunch with him every Saturday because she was scared to death of him? Or, as Celeste said, was it that Leonora liked having Guy obsessively in love with her because it fed her ego? Or did she still feel some lingering affection for him?

Your thoughts?
