Philip K. Dick Fans: I'm So Sorry
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/movies/la-fi-ct-terminator26-2009may26,0,6059314.story?page=1

Great article on the neophytes who managed to purchase the rights to the Terminator franchise - remember that Christian Bale tape that got leaked?

Somehow they managed to get first refusal rights to any new treatments of Dick stories.

14. No
Terminator was based on a script by Harlan Ellison. He sued, won, got a pile of cash and had his name added to the credits.

15. Wow! I'd never heard that before!
Good for Harlan. I'll need to watch the credits next time.

2. For three years, only.
"The Halcyon Co. (which is producing Terminator Salvation and just settled a lawsuit relating to that film) signed a three-year first-look deal for the movie rights to all of Dick's novels and short stories in 2007... (And it sounds like Halcyon's deal is going to expire with no movie made.)"

5. I think that Bale was swearing at the writers
For giving him such a sh*tty script. It made me miss "Sarah Connor Chronicles" all the more.

16. Actually, Bale changed the script!
"In fact, he was even instrumental in initiating major changes to the script and brought on close friend Jonah Nolan (Christopher Nolan's screenwriter brother) to rework Michael Ferris and John Brancato's screenplay."

6. That's bad news, sure, but...
I can only think of two film adaptations of PKD's work that weren't terrible, so it really doesn't make much of a difference if these knuckleheads get first pick.

(I'll let the reader decide which two PKD films I'm referring to!)

13. You LIKE Rotoscope?!? Sir, you can keep your defense to yourself!
I can't ally myself with anyone who favors that nauseating cinematic gimmick!

11. Actually, I haven't seen that one yet.
I just taped it two nights ago! Maybe I'll get around to watching it this weekend.

P.S. I'm reading World War Z now. :woohoo:
