Has anyone read Mary Willis Walker? Her "heroine" is Molly Ivins.

Her books (3 I think) are set in Austin, are mysteries, and the "sleuth" is a free lance reporter named Molly Cates. She is sooo based on Molly Ivins. Ann Richards (by a different name) even appears from time to time.

If you read mysteries, try these. I'm on my second. Almost makes me a tad sad wishing Molly was still with us.

Her humor was right on target. She loved to skewer politicians particularly Republicans.

I just found all four of Ms. Walker's books in that series, and I can get them from my publisher, who happens to be the publisher who put out all of the her books. I just want to know if they're good, or are you - like me - a sentimental fool?

6. I haven't read them yet since the poster just made me aware of them.

However, I will spend some money at the book store because the author and publisher should be paid for their work. I'm not an editor but apparently you are or so your post would lead people to believe.

8. Yes, they are good reads but. . .

1. It is difficult to separate Molly Ivins from the books in my mind and I loved Molly so I love this character.

2. I read a ton of mysteries. They have to be good but since I read 2-3 a week, my standards might not be as high as they were 30 years ago when there was more to choose from.

Having said that, they are good. Well written, good plots, and great characters :)

I found the author on a list of 25 essential or favorite mysteries but I'll be damned if I can find the list now. I'd read about 75% of the books on the list and I'd like all the one's I'd read so I decided to read the rest.

The first one I read from Walker was The Red Scream and I'm half way through Under the Beetle's Cellar.

10. Because of your OP I found a copy of her

"Under the Beetle's Cellar" which is a very good read.

I don't really hear Molly Ivins in Molly Cates dialogue.Maybe it is more evident in the other books. In any case, I will seek out the others.
