3. They have an implied high casualty rate...what with the explosions and hijinx.
Granted the librarian may have twisted a few into pretzels for talking in the library...that and 'Cut Me Own Throat' Dibbler sells concessions outside to a few unsuspecting Freshmen every now and then.

Although since I'm a girl I wouldn't get in.

That's OK, Nanny Ogg is much more fun! :hi:

6. Hogwarts ...

Even counting those unfortunate periods when dark lords were running around trying to take over the world, Hogwarts has a much, *much* higher survival rate.

Plus, I'm just not sure I could deal with a librarian that only says "Ook!" all the time.

I read an interview with Pratchett once wherein he makes a illuminating point about Discworld.

We look at that world and see it as all funny and fun, because it's so absurd. But, to the people who live there, all these goings-on aren't funny at all. I mean, put yourself in the place of a student who is seemingly randomly run down by sentient shopping carts and deals with professors who think of it as the highest achievement of their profession to avoid you as much as possible. It's a rather lousy existence.

Plus, as was said, there's girls at Hogwarts.

11. Unseen, no contest
Pratchett is the funniest Brit since P.G.Wodehouse.

12. Pratchett's Discworld books are the only books I've read more than once except for
The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. I've read all the Discworld books five times now, still laugh out loud, still find a turn of phrase I had missed previously and wonder at. The new ones are of course great, but I'd love for Lord Terry to write about Granny, Nanny and Magrat again. Or another focusing on Vimes and Carrot. But I guess his health is declining, and he obviously feels he's explored those characters fully.

14. Hogwarts is co-ed, and since I was once a girl I think that would be the place. Now, though...
... I'd head for the Ramtops and a nice slug of brandy with Nanny Ogg or herbal tea with Queen Magrat.

I love both Harry Potter and the Discworld series, for different reasons. I could definitely re-read the entire Discworld series several more times in my life. I discovered that a few have been made into films in Britain and have gleefully acquired The Hogfather and The Colour of Magic for myself. Sean Astin plays The Tourist!
