I have a question ...

there are detective stories where Dr. Fu Manchu is the hero and Sir Denis Nayland Smith is a loon bent on proving Fu is an evil mastermind. Does this sound familiar? Anybody know the author's name?

3. What I'm thinking of is a new series which...

features Dr. Fu is the good guy who solves mysteries while being plagued by Nayland Smith who is convinced that Fu is an evil genius. I've been trying to remember the name of the author since I only saw it a couple of times in a catalog.

The standalone chapter is set in 1929 and connects the events of Rohmer's original three novels with the series revival in the thirties.
