Anyone here read Christopher Moore?
I have read almost all of his books. I love his writing. "A Dirty Job" is hysterically funny. I've read and reread that book and have enjoyed it every time.

"Lamb" is also great. It's the story of Christ as told by Christ's best friend, Biff. It is thought-provoking, to be sure. When Christ is crucified, it is gut-wrenching even though you know it's coming.

"The Stupidest Angel" is sooo funny. It's a must-read for the holiday season. :D

2. Is he a Christian writer?
I wouldn't have considered him to be a Christian writer considering his subject matter. Vampires and all aren't exactly in line with Christian teaching.

10. People confuse sanctimony with Christianity. Moore doesn't.

16. Well, anyone who uses the term "fuck puppet" doesn't seem like a Christian writer
LOL! He might be leading us all astray!!!

7. It was really good and not at all sacreligious
I think that it handled the question of Christ's missing years well. I mean, wouldn't Christ seek out knowledge from other lands, other religious beliefs? It made sense.

14. I knew a woman who had a picture of Christ laughing
He had His head thrown back and He was laughing a great gut-busting laugh. I loved that picture.

I don't think that Jesus was sad or morose. I believe that He probably did have a great sense of humor. :)

5. It is rare. It would make a great movie
providing the studio wouldn't fuck it up too badly which would be the case.

8. I loved that! The book had its silly moments
Like when Biff was having sex and having to try and explain it to Jesus.

11. It was okay. It wasn't my favorite
It had its moments, but I'd recommend "You Suck" or "The Stupidest Angel" or "A Dirty Job" or some of his others.

13. I just started "Island of the Sequined Love Nun"
I had never heard of this author before. I have no idea if this is a good book or not. I assumed it was a bit irreverent and funny. Now I'm wondering if it's religious.

15. LOL. It's not. The main character in there, Tucker Case, is in another book
He appears in "The Stupidest Angel." Be sure to read that one. It is hysterical.

"Island of the Sequined Love Nun" was okay. Read "A Dirty Job." That, IMHO, is his best book.

17. "Island of the Sequined Love Nun" is a real downer once you.....
figure out what is going on. It resolves nicely, but it is way darker than his other books.

18. I've Read A Few
Haven't read Lamb, yet, but will. Did not like "Fool" at all. "Dirty Job" was my favorite, and I loved the one with the whales, but can't remember the name! I've introducd him to a few people who also have really enjoyed him. Can't imagine how any of them would come off as movies. Frankly, I've never seen a movie I thought was as good as the book.

21. Loved "You Suck"!
I downloaded it's predecessor "Bloodsucking Fiends" and looking forward to reading it. Interesting note about "A Dirty Job": There is actually a crossover scene from that story in "You Suck".

23. I heard that a Demon from one of his books shows up in another one
I think, in fact, he talked about the "crossovers" in a brief interview at the end of "You Suck" Audiobook CD (the best way to enjoy stories, particularly this one IMHO)

25. I believe that iTunes/Audible have all of his books available for download
Edited on Sat Oct-03-09 12:24 AM by Proud Liberal Dem
His CDs seem harder to come by for some reason though. I pretty much only buy books on CD/digital download anymore unless the title simply isn't available in that format. I have to drive around a lot for my job so the audiobooks keep me awake and engaged during my trips. I REALLY enjoy listening to Star Wars novels on CD because they always weave in the classic Star Wars sound effects and music into the storytelling so that you almost feel like you are listening to a movie than just a book on CD, particularly the more recent ones!
