A rollicking political nightmare lightly sprinkled with Neal Stephenson's spicerack of favorite themes. Written back in the 90s, and surely predicted in politics and media a great many things that have come to pass.

9. Just finished "South of Broad" by Pat Conroy.

This was the first book if his I've read. Engossing story with vivid characters. Beautiful writing style.

14. Prince of Tides was excellent, too.

Nothing, nothing, nothing like that horrible movie they made out of it. Almost unrecognizable in comparison. If I hadn't been trying to make a nice evening out of dinner and a movie with a friend, I would have walked out of the theater about 5-10 minutes into it.

The book is really incredible. I've read most of his, and have never been disappointed. :hi:

10. STRIKE DOG by Joseph Heywood

I loved this one...it's 5th in a series and I can't wait to get the 6th. You don't need to read all of them to enjoy, but they were all good.

16. The Accidental Guerilla by David Kilcullen

This is a study of AlQuaida written by an expert in counter insurgency. Kilcullen was an advisor to Petraeus during the Surge. Heavy going in parts, but worth the effort.

Didn't care a lot for way story was written - priests, sex, murders, but a good flow, interesting plot; I like this author.

I love this author and have read all the books in the Cork O'Connor series. Just barely into this one...

I have read all of Lee Child's books, recently during a conversation with a man who was looking at the book stands in wal mart he mentioned another author who has a protagonist similar to Jack Reacher who is a Dr. I cannot remember the authors name, does anyone here have any ideas on this>> I read a lot 2 3 books a week and need more authors... any help is greatly appreciated thank you

23. Breakfast with Buddha by Roland Merullo.

It was recommended by a friend and I started it last night after finishing my latest Ivan Doig novel. It's a very pleasant and easy read. I'm half way through it this morning and enjoying it immensely. It is fiction.

finalist for the National Book Award several years ago!

26. The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

I'm not a big fan of Brown. He generally has an interesting plot in there somewhere, but is way too in love with his reseach - infodumps abound and are awkardly inserted, and often slow things down inappropriately (I'm a fan of judicious pacing, and sometimes slowing down is appropriate, but sometimes it's just poorly done and misplaced). But my hubby wanted the book *because* he likes those kinds of infodumps - he loves the arcana of Brown and several other similar writers' books. As he was in the middle of another book when I brought it home, I started reading it, and am about 2/3 through it. True to his style, there's an interesting plot in there, and I'm intent on finding out What Happens, skimming when necessary.
