FYI, I used to sell used books on eBay, found I was losing money and stopped, but
I find it is a great place to buy used books if you don't mind getting them really cheap.

I read between 3 and 5 books per week and could never afford my evil habit if I bought new books. I shop thrift shops, but they have increased prices over the last year. I found several books on ebay for $.99 plus shipping, still about the cost of used book from the thrift shops, with a huge selection.
I am working through Walter Mosley right now, and found many of the newer ones I have never heard of on eBay.

Just suggestion - I don't work for them or even sell anything there at this time.

1. Thrift shops are my library. I cannot afford bookstore prices.
My local thrift shops sell hardbacks for a dollar, paperbacks for 25 or 50 cents. Several times a year, our local library has a used book sale and I'm always there at the "fill-a-bag-for-a-dollar" final day. There are still thousands of books to be sold and it is a fun thing to do. The first day of the sale is too crowded so I wait until the end. Townspeople leave books by the thousands for the library to sell.

Any economy for me is important and buying books this way saves me a fortune. You might call your library to see if they have book sales. Ours are held quarterly.

2. Did you sell on eBay or on Half?
I'm selling a bunch of books right now on Half.com and more or less break even on the books that are priced at $1.00 or less.

3. I always look at Half.com for books
There are enough people out there not making any money, just looking to unload inventory for a shot at a positive rating from me, so that I always pick up books cheap.

How the full-price bookstores are still in business is beyond me.

7. Somebody somewhere has to buy them new, or we all are out of luck....
Don't know what I'd do if I couldn't afford to read books.
Might end up as a library bum.....

9. I love books, and prefer buying them new
I just don't like creased spines, damaged covers, dated cover art, and then who knows if a page here or there has gotten torn out?

On the other hand, I don't throw books out except books that I have no intention of finishing, such as "Atlas Shrugged" or duplicates of books I bought inadvertently (like old classics), so I'm not a source of used books, but I bet other people who go through books like more than one per week probably have to unload some from time to time to free up space. I don't read that fast so I don't have this problem, lol.

4. I just recently donated 10 boxes of books to the library...
I wasn't even going to try to sell them, and maybe this way someone else will get a chance to read them all.

8. I used to buy at book stores..till I couldn't afford it
when I got on SS; then my dau got me hooked on Ebay and I probably got boxes of books from you that you lost money on..

Then, I discovered the library - paid for by my property taxes..wonderful service, wonderful librarians. Highly recommend you try them.

10. I buy both new and used books.

New? Mostly from B&N, with my educator's discount.

Used? From Powell's and anywhere else I can pick them up.

When my shelves become too full and I have to let some go, I donate them or "release" them through bookcrossing.

I just picked up about 20 old, beat-up classics for free; they were donated to a local elementary school who couldn't use them, being well beyond the capacity of their students, so they called me.
