Anyone read Greg Bear?
I just recently picked up a book at Goodwill called Slant. I just grab stuff based on the blurb on the back and didn't realize that it's the sequel to a book called Queen of Angels. Has anyone read this series? Should I get the first book or can Slant be read without knowing the back story from the first book?

Thanks. :)

1. Go to the public library and get the first book. I have not read these books
but I read a lot and always get more out of a sequel if I've read the first book before any others that may follow.

Enjoy-----reading is the best.

3. Ok
I'll put this one up for a while until I can run down the first book.

Thanks!

Eon, Blood Music, Tangents, Forge of God, Anvil of Stars, Foundation and Chaos, Darwin's radio, Darwin's Children, Dead Lines.

Pretty good stuff. Darwin's radio probably the best of the bunch. Although, given how many of his books I've read, surprisingly not really a favorite.

4. This is the first of his I've picked up
I've heard the name, but just never picked up anything by him before. And I've been reading Sci/Fi since the early 80s.

5. I think it's because he's a Seattleite.
I have more exposure to him here.

6. Yes he is fantastic
Be sure and read The Forge of God, (end of the world novel) and its sequel Anvil of Stars (yes trust me, it really is a sequel).

Darwin's Radio and its sequel Darwin's Children are very interesting reading. Think visible human evolution.

i remember nothing whatsover about queen of angels or slant other than the fact that i did read them once

the darwin books are equally boring, too many meetings, i'm sure real science involves lots of meetings also but i don't read books to go to meetings and conferences, i coulda worn a suit and done that

by far i think the best greg bear is the early one, blood music
