Anybody know of any mysteries set in cold areas of the US or in Canada,
where a murderer left a body in a lake/river, etc., in the fall and in the spring after the ice thawed, the body was found?

Or true crime books, for that matter.

1. I don't know if Alaskan mystery writer Dana Stabenow
has any books that match that exact criterion, but she has a lot of fans.

3. Winter Mysteries
I know Nevada Barr wrote a mystery called Winter Study which takes place on Royale Isle, Lake Superior. I don't think any bodies were in the lake but her main character has some nifty problems after falling or being shoved into a very, very cold lake. The group on the island have no running water or electricity and so cold becomes a definite problem.

8. She has another one that takes place there as well...
... I don't remember the title and I thought you may be referring to it but the one I am thinking about involves scuba diving in the lake exploring a wreck and that certainly wouldn't have happened in the winter. I didn't know she wrote about the same park more than once though.

winters in Minnesota. There are a whole list and I remember one but not the name about bodies in a Minnesota lake.

10. Louise Penny
writes mysteries set in a small, cold town in Quebec. I've only read a couple and don't remember if there was one where a body was found in the spring, but people definitely die in the winter in her books.

12. I love her books
I just finished the latest, The Brutal Telling, which started out in early Sept back-to-school time
Her stories seem to be centered around holidays of various seasons
If I could live in a fictional place it would be Three Pines

24. Just found this thread, but want to say I agree with you.
I've attended a couple of Craig Johnson's book signings on his "Pacific Northwest" tours, and he was featured at an annual writers conference in my area. Like his books a lot, glad I found him. He has a "Walt Longmire for Sheriff" bumper sticker on his motorcycle! Craig's a very interesting guy who really engages his audience during his book signings, and has become one of my favorite authors. Not to mention his success story gives hope to us writer wannabes!

Peace.
