7. I'm re-reading, actually.

"The Art of Eating," by M.F.K. Fisher. Not truly fiction, but not truly fact, either. Every so often I need to re-absorb this one. This every-so-often happens to be now...

In the fiction milieu, I'm also reading the final installment of Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which I managed to avoid for over 20 years. Not sure why I avoided it...

14. I'm going to finish "And Another Thing" Book Six of

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which I actually find I am liking. I wasn't familiar with Eoin Colfer and was worried that I'd just really not like it because, you know, he's not Douglas Adams and what the heck is he doing? But actually the characters don't feel weird in the "Kermit has a new voice" way, and his sense of humor is along the same preposterously imaginative vein. There seem to be a bit too many intrusions of the Galctic footnote sort, but I'm really not disliking it.

One of my excursions this week was this big old Discount Book Warehouse--god I love these things. I don't know if every locale has them--it's where an empty department store like a Bradlees or a Value City gets turned into a paradise of dirt-cheap books? I've got a compilation of essays from George Orwell--Facing Unpleasant Facts. The older I get, the more I like Orwell. I also found Daniel Dennet's Darwin's Dangerous Idea, Samantha Power's Chasing the Flame, Yossef Bodansky's The High Cost of Peace and Azar Nafisi's Reading Lolita in Tehran. I'll probably have less time for reading, so that list is like, my month of April--but I'll have to squeeze some sf in to keep from getting too serious.

My hubby got books on gardening and recipees for garden veggies--I sense projects for the "urban farm" might also be in my future.

Winter Study.

I really like her books. Not only are they good mysteries but I always learn learn something about our National Parks. This one has terrifc descriptions of wolves.

22. DOWN TO THE WIRE by David Rosenfelt

Fast-moving mystery that holds my interest - AFTER I got used to the idea that there were NO DOGS in this story. I've read all of Rosenfelt's books to date, and they were ALL about dogs. That's the main reason I keep up with him....

Oh well, he has a doggie book coming out in August...

An astonishing work. Goldblatt traces the history and development of the game in different countries and regions from a political and economic perspective. Absolutely brilliant.

33. You won't regret it...."Speaks the Nightbird" is an excellent look at claims of witchcraft....

in colonial America. The author really helps me "see" the time period he writes of. There's a third book in the series "Mister Slaughter" which I'm greatly looking forward to.

McCammon's horror is pretty good too. "Boy's Life" is a good read, similar to Stephen King's "It" and "Swan's Way" is close in theme to "The Stand".
