4. The Joy of Living

by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche

An excellent introduction to Tibetan philosophy and mindfulness practices for westerners. The author, a Tibetan Buddhist monk, is well-schooled in western psychology, and to some extent in physics, and integrates the western science with the eastern tradition readily and seamlessly.

12. I love my new "purse book":

The Various Haunts of Men by British mystery writer Susan Hill. I found one of her later novels in our local mystery bookstore, and at the checkout counter, the owner, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre, suggested that I start with the first one instead. I will definitely be reading more!

My "bedside book" is still The Remains of an Altar by Phil Rickman, which has to do with rumors of ghostly encounters in the Welsh border country.

16. I just started The Passage by Justin Cronin

it is the story of the Vampire apocalypse, and it reminds me very much of the The Stand by Stephen King. I am only 150 pages in, but I am completely hooked and had a little trouble sleeping last night. So far, it is a recommend from me.

17. MISSISSIPPI VIVIAN by Bill Crider & Clyde Wilson

Clyde Wilson died in 2008. He was a private detective in Texas. Crider writes this book based on one of Wilson's cases.

Main fictional character is Ted Stephens, private eye. Book is mildly amusing throughout with one LOL scene towards the end, light touch and no offensive language about anything. Nice read and only 235 pages.
