Has anyone tried to read "The Room"?
I quit halfway through. It may be a masterpiece to some, but it was just depressing as hell to me. There are too many stories in real life that are like this ie. Joseph Fritzl and Jaycee Dugard.

I had to quit because I began to feel if I was trapped in that room too. It took me a while to shake the feeling as silly as that may sound.

1. Is this the one about the little boy and his mother?
Someone was raving about it the other day but, honestly, I'm not sure it appeals to me.

Sad to hear it allegedly sucks.

3. I read several reviews that led me to believe its a powerful piece but not for everyone....
Many people also found the book "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy an uncomfortable read. Many others found it absolutely brilliant. I read it in one sitting and thought it a masterpiece-who can say who is right?

I'll probably read "The Room" eventually just because it offers such a uniquely horrifying perspective.

4. I'm planning on
reserving it at my local library soon.

Although I have all too often found that books that are very hyped are ones I find disappointing.

5. The title is actually "Room".
Here is a review:
In many ways, Jack is a typical 5-year-old. He likes to read books, watch TV, and play games with his Ma. But Jack is different in a big way--he has lived his entire life in a single room, sharing the tiny space with only his mother and an unnerving nighttime visitor known as Old Nick. For Jack, Room is the only world he knows, but for Ma, it is a prison in which she has tried to craft a normal life for her son. When their insular world suddenly expands beyond the confines of their four walls, the consequences are piercing and extraordinary. Despite its profoundly disturbing premise, Emma Donoghue's Room is rife with moments of hope and beauty, and the dogged determination to live, even in the most desolate circumstances. A stunning and original novel of survival in captivity, readers who enter Room will leave staggered, as though, like Jack, they are seeing the world for the very first time. --Lynette Mong

Watching the child develop in these circumstances was interesting. The way the mother coped was too. However, as I said, it began to make me feel trapped.

6. I'm No. 68
on the list for it in my library. I thought "The Road" was a masterpiece, so I'll be curious to see how I feel about this one.
