7. Nothing at the moment, unfortunately, but
I have a five books requested at the library, most of which I will be waiting a long time for, I think.

The one that I requested that wasn't already checked out is Lucy by Laurence Gonzales. Heard about it on To The Best of Our Knowledge on NPR today.

nook freebie a few weeks ago. Enjoying it--not as plot driven as most mysteries, floats across many Chinese lives in New York.

12. Have choice of several books to read....
a few are by James Doss, proceeding in my 2nd reading of the whole series, but a couple of "new" books came into the library that have to be returned in 2 weeks, so I have to put Doss aside.

It's hard reading with the Tucson incident. I've cried so many times watching the news about it that it's impossible to read at this time. Been reading all the posts about it in the main forums and folks are divided as to whose to blame. Some lovely people involved in the incident in Tucson, real heroes.

But getting back to "fiction," I decided to read Balducci first - his , and I'm only on page 7. Am stunned to see that Russia is behind the drug business in Mexico and have pushed the Mexicans out of control. Is there any truth to this, or is it fiction? Gees, we just signed a treaty with them. And the drug cartel is part of the Russian government, not just operating on its own...anybody know?

15. Finished Reading Case of the Missing Maidservant (Hall),
finished listening to Server Down (Hayes), and currently reading Sweet Honey, Bitter Lemons (Fort), a great account of solo travel by Vespa in Sicily with lots of good foodie notes, as well as one of the J. A. Jance Joanna Brady mysteries. Am listening (slowly) to Hiassen's Skinnydip.

17. Skinny Dip is My First iPod Listen - need sound-canceling headset
Most of my listening ops are on bus commute and during pedestrian time downtown. Latent noise is an issue. My "pedestrian" buds just don't cut it a lot of the time. But I have gone through a couple pair already and gag at paying a bundle for sound-canceling if they are also short-lived. Guess maybe I just need to find a cave.

18. That Hayes book, SERVER DOWN, sounds like my kind of book...
I looked it up on Amazon..

Trouble is, my library doesn't have the 4 books that precede it. Going to see if interlibrary loan source has them....

http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/H_Authors/Hayes_J-M.html

I love books with part-Indian/Indian characters. That's why I love the Hillerman books (no humor) and the Doss books (lots of humor). I'm getting turned off spy/political books and serial killers, gangs, etc. Maybe the latest shooting in Tucson is having this effect.

Maybe in a few months, will feel hungry again for the type of mysteries I used to love.

In the meantime, will try to get Hayes' books...thanks.

19. Finished Lucy by Laurence Gonzalez
in just a couple of days. Quick read and does open up some interesting questions and thoughts. Not a really heavy book and not very detailed. Just light (and some dark) fiction.

:hi:

23. I just wanted to come back and mention that this book
is a perfect YA read. There is no overt sexuality or anything like that. It really does emphasize compassion because the main character is part human, part bonobo which is one of the great apes that we share most of our DNA with and they are a peaceful, matriarchal society.
