How many books have you read in 2011?

1. WOW! You're good.
Having a snowy winter helps plow through more books.

I've read 6 so far -- got a Kindle for Christmas, and that has helped speed along the book reading.

2. 21, and most on my Kindle.
I get all my Kindle books free from The Gutenberg Project. They're all old, but words don't age.

5. I like the free ones. :)
I've downloaded most of Mark Twain, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and several of the classics as well. I have some current fiction that I actually paid for that has been waiting for 4-5 weeks for me to finish all of Sherlock Holmes! :)

4. For fun or for work?
Only 6 or so for fun, but I'm finishing my anthro PhD this year so I think I'm close to like seven.

6. So far, ten
Baby-sitting an infant and a 6-yr old who likes Sponge Bob, plus Keith Olberman's firing and Egypt have had me watching TV.

Should have had more books done by now.

7. Just finished my third for the year, working on two others.
I shelved them for the moment.

I have to decide what to read next from three choices: The Power of the Dog; Sidetracked; or The Kite Runner.

19. Me, either.
I just keep reading. Never felt the need to keep track of the number. Didn't know there was a contest.

12. How do you people keep track?
I read about a book a week, but I don't write down when I start a book. I usually finish one book and pick up another. I just started putting books on librarything, but I haven't been recording my progress.

BTW, I think I'm around 9-10. I had a long Steven King book this year that took longer than my usual one week.

16. I keep a book journal. I also update my Goodreads.com account regularly.
But my paper book journal is more accurate.

23. I started keeping track in 2001
I have to because I buy so many books, otherwise I might buy the same book twice. Once I even read a book twice and the second time I didn't even realize I had already read it until I saw it on my list. Only about a year prior and I didn't even remember ANYTHING of the plot. Well, it was only a Forgotten Realms book so that might explain it! They don't call it FORGOTTEN Realms for nothing lol!

Anywho, I have over 700 fiction books waiting to get read (about 400 or 500 non-fiction) so I had to develop a semi-random system to choose what books to read next. Because it's too hard to choose when you have 700!

Since 2001, the most I've read in one year was 44, the least was 24. So far this year I've read only 10, so this might turn out to be my worst year.

22. Do audio books count?
If so, 51 (I listen while doing mindless tasks so if I'm doing a lot of garden work, say, I can do as many as two a week). Real books, about 20-25

26. Why wouldn't they?
I think the point of reading, or listening, to a book, is processing the info in the book. Doesn't matter how that info gets processed for it to 'count.'

24. 10, almost 11. I'm hit/miss sometimes
sometimes I go a month or two without reading anything, then I get in the mood, and I clear 5-7 books in a couple of weeks...rinse/repeat.

29. Just 9 so far this year....
I usually read between 45 and 50 each year. I was distracted for much of the year.

Hopefully I can catch up toward the end of the year as I found a few books I always wanted to read over at Borders.
