I love my librarian.

In the past several years, she and I have become friends, having great visits when I go in to pick up my books, sharing each others problems and helping where we can. She's a great font of knowledge, not just about reading material.

As some of you may know, we have had terrible snow storms out here on the plains the past two weeks. I've missed so much work because I couldn't get out. Today she sent me an email that the hold I have on the new Fannie Flagg book was about to expire and there's a long waiting list for it, so she checked it out for me and it's waiting on the desk for me to pick it up tomorrow afternoon when they open. Is that not great or what? :D

the librarians are great,but I doubt that they would ever do what yours did.

7. The branch I have all my on-line

requests sent to is a very small branch, closer to home so I can pick them up after I leave work and am almost there. So, it's been very easy to develop a relationship with her. We both seem to be the chatty type.

8. As more people convert to pads, I'm afraid libraries may disappear

Never completely of course, but there are less and less reasons to go there.

9. That is what I'm afraid of.

I don't have room to store a bunch of books, nor the money for the amount I enjoy reading. Even if this were not the case, I would still utilize the library. I think it's important to do so that there is still a library system available for sectors of the population who will always need them.

than the web.

Even Wikileaks, with all its mirrors, only exists in about 200 locations worldwide. The information in a bestselling non-fiction book lives in millions of locations and requires no active interface.

If the web came crashing down (not that unthinkable) it's kinda nice to have a backup.
