1. Book 3 of Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I just

started with book one Thursday a week ago. I can't put the series down, even though the first book was about 673 pages, the second 728, and the third is over 1000.......... The books are so good, reading them is like going on vacation without leaving the comforts of home...transported to another place/time.

Marked Man. He has a great way of injecting humor in a great thriller. Summertime is a great time to enjoy the warm air and a good book.

12. HELL IS EMPTY by Craig Johnson

Just started it and it's got me already. I flipped the pages and was pleased to see Virgil's name. He's the big Indian who lived under the road in Another Man's Moccasins, so it seems that this will be another good one for Johnson.

Johnson makes me homesick for west-southwest books and James Doss.

I've been pretty busy lately and am still struggling with Red River. I adored Tademy's Cain River, maybe it's just my frame of mind regarding Red River. I should probably put it aside for awhile and try later, that maybe a good reason for me to go get myself Hell Is Empty. ;-)

The book is confusing because it goes from childhood to present, but it has to because the past is messing up the present.

I thought that in DC there'd be a lot of different crimes and that it had a chance to be a pretty good series....

This is my second Long book after The Descent. Both books are outstanding. Great adventure stories that also explore the ethics of science and religion.

which is about Australia, and so far, it's both perceptive and laugh-out-loud funny.

I became a fan after reading his "Notes from a Small Island," which is about his life in England. I had just returned from a trip to England, and even though it was many years after the events described in the book, parts of the observations about British culture were still spot-on.

I did once make the mistake of reading "On the Beach" when I was a bit depressed, which wasn't a good thing to do.

"Alas, Babylon", which is one of my all time favorite post-nuclear holocaust novels, has never been out of print since it was first published. My science fiction book club read it, along with "Lucifer's Hammer" by Jerry Pournelle as a two-book combo for the same discussion. It was VERY interesting. The racism in each of them is both blatant and very different.

It's apparently published as mainstream (because of the author, no doubt) rather than s-f even though it takes place two decades in the future. The United States is almost completely crippled by debt. And then The Big One hits Los Angeles. I'm only about 50 pages into it, and it's quite good so far.

45. I'm reading Patterson Books

James Patterson's crime mysteries have been wonderful to read lately. The Women's Murder Club series is beyond great (I recently finished 3rd Degree). I've moved over to the Alex Cross novels. Along Came a Spider (better than the movie so far) is my first and the first in the series. I have all of this time riding to work each day on the bus that it's great escapism to read his novels.

and loved it. It was one of the first books of its kind; following a group of women with all of their personal challenges. The movie was good, too. Had a great cast.
