For The Sake of Elena by Elizabeth George - Lynley and Havers book #5

I only discovered this week that book four A Suitable Vengence is actually a prequel to the entire Lynley/Havers series. If you are thinking about reading this series it will make much more sense if you read book four before book number #1 A Great Deliverance

1. Breakfast of Champions, Vonnegut

My fourth one to finish in the last month or so. I had never read Vonnegut until I heard of the ban of Slaughterhouse 5 at that Missouri school district. And, here I am - Hooked!

3. I'm reading "The Promised War" by Thomas Greanias.

It's a pretty good read, if you're into a little modern counterintelligence and historical emphasis. That part was a surprise, and I'm really digging this book.

I'm going to buy the other book probably later this week via Kindle.

14. Other Worlds--SF and the human imagination

by Margaret Atwood

She does a wonderful analysis of 1984 and The Island of Dr Moreau (so far) There is a really good piece on Oryx and Crake--The Year of The Flood, and The Handmaids Tale . I am about half way through .

If you have never read Atwoods books I could not recommend them more highly. Most of her work is not Sci-Fi.

17. The Last Ritual by Yrsa Sigurdardottir

Yet another fine Icelandic mystery writer. (The other is Arnaldur Indridason.)

This one is about an eccentric and secretive German exchange student with an interest in the medieval witch hunts whose mutilated body is found on the university campus.

18. Just finished "The Probable Future" by Alice Hoffman

First time I've read any of her books. I've seen them when working in the bookstore years ago, but first time I picked one up and I loved it.

but I've kind of reached the point where I think it will be a good idea to keep a list of all the characters. I've had a hard time keeping her many characters straight.

24. The Dead Women of Juarez, by Sam Hawken

I believe this is Hawken's first novel. I'm about halfway through, and it's a really enjoyable book so far.

25. Just finished Redbreast by Nesbo

I am crazy about this author. The mystery plus history plus wondrous writing have me hooked.

Now on to another nonfiction for a natural history book club, "The Tiger - a Story of Vengeance and Survival" by John Vaillant. We picked it out months ago and now it is sadly apropos, given the Ohio horror.

Which I had to interrupt when two quick-read books I had on hold at the library came in almost at once.

Now I'm finding it difficult, at almost 300 pages in, to pick up the storyline again.
