Beware of reading Murakami's 1Q84!
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 12:51 PM by Kablooie
Haruki Murakami's (one of Japan's greatest living authors) new book 1Q84 is a fascinating, weird story that was published as three volumes in Japan.

It just came out here in the US and I finished reading it last night.

AAHHH!

It's only the first two volumes, the third isn't available in the US and it leaves you with a giant, strange cliff hanger.

I researched on the net and found that all three volumes were published in the UK so I had to pirate a copy so I can finish the story.

I don't understand why a publisher would not publish all three volumes if they've already been written.

They forced me into piracy by doing this.

2. 944 page version available at Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/1Q84-Haruki-Murakami/dp/0307593312

which appears to be all 3 volumes, judging from the Wikipedia description: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1Q84

8. From one Amazon review:
“Do you miss the girl with the dragon tattoo? Do you long for the thrill of following her adventures again through three volumes of exciting..."

That alone sold me! I'll be ordering the Kindle version pronto!

Baloney

Amazon has it for 16 bucks.

You owe Murakami 5 dollars and 33 cents.

5. Youre right! I didn't check Amazon after I got the 2 volume version.
I checked Wikipedia that said the two volume version only was available in the US and all three in the UK.

Though it pretty crappy to have to re-buy the first two volumes in order to get the third.

I think I'll stay with my pirate copy for now.

9. This doesn't make sense.
I bought it at Barnes & Nobel. It is 924 pages, and has all three volumes clearly marked.

10. When I bought it a little while ago only the 2 volume version was available.
I notice that now the 2 volume version isn't for sale anymore.

Here is what I bought, only as epub, not the kindle version.

Strange that they would release a 2 volume only version for a short while.

11. Wow.
I can share the sentiment. I've been forced into piracy a long time ago, but I just love books that I stopped caring a long time ago. I think I'm gonna give it a try.
