Harry Potter: Anyone figure out who RAB is yet? I think I have...
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 08:29 AM by thom1102
I think that I figured it out, and I won't spoil it for everyone. If you want to see what I think, highlight the rest of this post. I think that RAB is Sirius Black's brother, Regulus (I think), who JKR aluded to in HBP. She said that he worked for Voldemort, and that he broke from the Death Eaters. I think that when he broke with Voldemort, he knew the location of the Horcrux in the cave, and that it is among the possessions from 12 Grimmauld St that Mundangus stole. That's just my opinion, and I could be wrong. What do you think?

1. How do you do that?
Hiding text like that is new to me. How do you do that?

2. That is certainly the leading theory
And as for hiding text, all you have to do is set it to the same color as the background, using (in square brackets) font color="white", like this:

Here is some hidden text.

Highlighting the text changes it's color to a system default, which is visible against a white background. Remember to use the /font tag (again, in square brackets) after your text. More HTML help can be found clicking on the "HTML lookup table" link at the top of the message editor.

10. Well, the mystery is in 7 according to JKR.
I need to practice this hide thing for the next part...I think it is someone else. Jo mentioned Fawkes in an interview and there is a bit of a mystery with Fawkes's disappearance. I am wondering can Fawkes take Polyjuice Potion. Also, why couldn't Fawkes heal DD's hand... or him when he came back?
That would really shake things up! ;)

3. That's my guess too.
I couldn't be sure, because I don't think they mentioned his middle name.

5. I forgot about him!!
That makes sense- He would probably want revenge. But (hidden)

wouldn't he then inherit the house?

Also, (hidden)

do you think Snape is really evil? I think he had the whole thing set up with Dumbledore ahead of time, and that's why Dumbledore was pleading with him- Snape had to kill him, and didn't want to.

7. I don't have my book with me, but...
(Hidden) didn't she say that Regulus was dead? As to Snape, I originally didn't think about that, but the more I think about it, the more I think that that is the case. That would also explain what Snape and DD were arguing about in the woods. DD may have wanted to ensure that in the final battle between LV and HP, HP had a well placed and unexpected ally to help him.

That's just MHO

14. No.
He wouldn't, because, one, Sirius thought he was dead, and two, because he left everything to Harry.

18. i think it's a set up too
but part of me isn't even sure dumbledore is dead. remember how he offered draco a fake death and an escape? Dumbledore could so fake his own death.

24. My take on Snape
I think that he is really good for two reasons:

1) Snape and Dumbledore were both masters at oclemancy (sp?). It was described as weird that DD was pleading with Snape to save him. There very well could have been an unspoken message that we weren't privy to. DD probably knew that he was going to die either from previous injuries, one of the other death eaters that were present, or some combination of the two. He told Snape to kill him so that Snape could keep his cover. When he did not do it immediately, he plead with him out loud.

2) When HP caught up with Snape, Snape was kicking HP's ass. Even if Snape were evil and following Voldemort's orders, why couldn't he just knock out Potter and take him back to Voldemort to be killed by his master. No, he let HP go. He will come through for HP in the end.

I probably have thought too much on this.

Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 10:45 AM by Pithy Cherub
who else was missing? RAB is a great guess/probability, but seems too obvious for JKR.

19. too obvious? how so?
these are still children's books. And quite frankly i'm a bit ashamed that it didn't occur to me that the person who spent years teaching potions would have been good at making potions when he was in school. :eyes: :dunce:

dunces...

I truly wonder whether she meant the books to be viewed as primarily Children's books as the concepts are very adult oriented. Look how much gets past everybody who reads them so that there is the OMG-JKR- hid-it-plain-sight and I feel so foolish because its a Childrens Book. This is written from the POV of a child that becomes an adult. A great guess for RAB from "The Leaky Cauldron" site was Amelia Bones.

Jo is a classical writer who loves Shakespeare, Jane Austen and other authors who don't make obvious choices. So in that vein, we await the double reverse, again.:freak::silly:

Some examples:
Snape is the one trying to get the Philosophers Stone.
Sirius a bad guy who's a good guy who has to play the part of a bad guy.
The faux Moody
Kreachers lies to Harry

I have to agree with you on that. In book 5, Sirius says that Regulus was a Death Eater, and got killed when he didn't like what he had to do. Regulus probably hit it in the house before his death. I also checked - among the things that they found in the cabinets in Grimmaud Place was a "large locket that nobody could open." I think that either Mundungus made off with it, or Kreacher's squirreled it away somewhere.

Either way, I can't wait for Book Seven! I hope that JKR continues writing in the HP universe after the series concludes. There's a lot of great material to be mined there, not just Harry's story.

21. thats the general concensus on Mugglenet
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 10:18 PM by melissinha
I couldn't remember exact names like you had when i was reading it... but I suspected it was a relative of Sirius for the reasons that you have outlined.

I have another theory besides that one... it is partially based upon a theory on Mugglenet (you guys shoudl really visit it)

Basically it is based upon the magical number seven, the fact that the school is done in seven years etc... Here goes... you need to find 7 horcruxes.... we can consider the times that Voldemort has appeared as Horcruxes... so hear goes.

1. Professor Quirrel had or was a horcrux
2. Diary was a horcrux
3. Hufflepuff teacup- No reference in book #3 but we can add the ones we suspect here...
4. The snake whats her name?
5. Slytherin locket that was possible discovered in book 5 in Grimmauld Place.
6. The Gaunt Ring
7. Voldemort's body

23. My prediction for Horcrux #7
I think that it is Harry Potter. This would explain why Harry wasn't killed. It wasn't because of his mom; it was because Voldemort wanted to use him. This would also be explained by the fact that Voldemort knew about the prophecy and wanted to make sure that if Harry killed Voldemort, a part of him would still be alive and if Harry was killed, no biggy. Also, the prophecy kind of makes sense if you think of Harry as the 7th Horcrux. Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass.

Well, let me have it for my wacky ideas.
