Just picked up "The Egyptologist" by Arthur Phillips.

2. My belated update:

It was a terrific book and I recommend it.

The author piles on plenty of dark humor with numerous twists and turns throughout. I kept second-guessing things I thought were a given with the plot and that really kept it interesting.
