Sen. Boxer writing novel about U.S. Senate
WASHINGTON - She's a feisty left-wing senator from California faced with a vexing decision: What to do about a conservative Supreme Court nominee who appears headed for confirmation?

"You need to be the conscience of the liberals, even if you're the only voice in the wilderness," implores an aide.

Who could this senator be but Barbara Boxer, the outspoken liberal whose combative opposition to Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state was parodied on Saturday Night Live?

Not quite.

It's actually Sen. Ellen Fischer, D-Calif., the fictional character Boxer created in her first novel, "A Time to Run," out Nov. 1 from Chronicle Books.

Boxer has been working on the suspense novel for years, writing it in longhand on flights from California to Washington and back. Now a coincidence of timing has it poised for publication just as its plot line seems ripped from the headlines.

The timing is "almost unbelievable," Boxer said in an interview.

Book TV had a clip of her talking about this weeks ago!

It will be the first book I pay full price for in many years.

It's already on my Amazon wish list. :)

4. Uh. Since when do Congresspeople have time to write NOVELS?
And isn't this something better left to people who are novelists or writers?

When did EVERYONE in the world become a Nabakov?

Didn't it used to be that novelists wrote novels and Senators did things like, gee, I dunno, uh, maybe initiate impeachment proceeedings?

I guess I'd expect a more critical take here on DU as well.

Don't get me wrong. I love Boxer. Contributed to her PAC....but....writers write books; senators do gov.

If she's got time to write a novel "on the side", that concerns me.
