Recommendation: "I Don't Know How She Does It"
The Life of Kate Reddy, Working Mother

Although I'm not finished with this book yet, I highly recommend it. Any woman who has ever tried to have it all will find it both humorous and somewhat frighteningly true. Men who want a glimpse inside the minds of their working wives should also pick up a copy.

The opening scene is Kate taking store-bought pies from their containers and beating them into a homemade-looking variety for a child's event. (And I thought I was the only bake-sale fraudster on the planet!)

3. I know you wrote this
But, ironically, I keep hearing Kate Reddy's voice when I read your post. :)

2. Thanks for the recommendation and the description of the book.
It's nice to peek in this forum and see what people are reading and how they like it.

I've picked up several books recommended by other DU'ers in this forum and have been really pleased with the recommendations.

Thanks for taking the time to tell us about this book!

4. I read that book twice, after a book club chose it one month
There are many times I think "my God, why on earth is she doing *that* again, how stupid". But, crap, I see myself in that book here and there.

5. The thing that really got to me were the little lists
1) Go by baker's and pick up cake
2) Buy Christmas present for mother-in-law who has never liked me
3) Make detailed packing list for husband for trip

.... It's hard for me to think back to a time when I didn't have such lists running through my mind from the moment I wake up until when I go to bed. Anytime I have an idle moment, I'm checking my mental list... or worse, writing notes on my hand.

I just finished this book over the weekend and I'm still wrapping my mind around it all. I liked it very much, but I also found it quite sad.
