1. It should be interesting to see the
christian haters crawl out the DU woodworks to condemn someone for a personal decision based on freedom of choice.

Obviously, someone who can write like her can also think for herself

10. Eh maybe fundie is a bit of a stretch
he considers himself a staunch Christian just doesn't want to use it as a means for his act and so forth. Unfortunately though it did make him a Bushbot :(

Oh well though I'll still never ditch my autographed plaque of him, the guy is still a rock legend.

14. He does TV ads here in AZ
And they're just horrid. He's so squeaky clean. All he does is golf and talk about money. And he's a Bushie.... I find him disgusting. He's SUCH a sellout.

15. Sell Out is definitely the word
I find Marylin Manson more of the real deal than Alice these days.

11. Since when? I never heard about it.
What's wrong with these people!!? I think Anne knows that she'll get a following on her God books because there's plenty of fundies out there who'll read her books vs. those seemingly gay vampire books that are so politcally incorrect these days.

And Alice? Welcome to My Nightmare indeed!

6. she's a good writer??? i must have missed something.
i think she writes trash, but what does that have to do with whether she is a christian or athiest, hetero- or homo- sexual or any of a myriad of pop socio-cultural choices??? the cult of personality marches inexorably forward.

16. After her last few books
I think she saw the market for really bad writing in the Left Behind series.

20. Well...
I liked her first few books, but I wouldn't exactly hold up her later novels as brilliance. :)

I know she has a lot of fans. I'm NOT interested in reading her Christ book, though. I'm sure she'll find quite a large audience, though.

26. Should someone that writes like her, write about Christ?
Her writing skills are highly questionable. She hasn't written a decent book, since she decided she was above the editorial process.

2. It really isn't such a stretch
when you think about it. If she actually believes in the dark forces about which she writes, well, there has to be an opposite end of the spectrum, I'd think.

8. Her writing has...
...always been about good & evil. I don't see the story in this. IMHO her best vampire books were the first two, Interview... & Vampire Lestat. When she started writing more about Lestat's struggle with morality she lost me. If I buy a Vampire Book I don't want a 400 page discussion of morality & faith.

3. Might be fun reading
this and what comes along.

A novel through the eyes of the child Jesus coming from her sounds intriguing.

Finding God, feeling Spirit, believing in redemption...doesn't mean becoming a fundie, although fundies think that's what they do.

9. I don't care what flavor she is.
I'll always find her annoying, and her books utter crap. I tried getting through 2 or 3 of them.

The one about Ramses the Damned was as close as I came to almost enjoying one. I finally finished "The Witching Hour" after six months. It was that tedious.

22. I'm the same way with her
I forced myself to finish "Interview" only because my mom recommended it to me.

Then I got about 20 pages into "Lestat" and gave up. I haven't has any inclination to read any of her books since then.

13. Considering how steeped in religious symbolism her vampire books were ...
... I don't think this is a big step for Anne.

I'm still trying to get through the last two books in her vampire series, so I probably won't be standing in line to get her next book. It does sound like an interesting premise, but I'm curious who the audience for that book will end up being. I can't imagine the fundies embracing an author who writes homo-erotic vampire stories and soft-core S&M porn. And I can't see her occult fans reading her Jesus book - especially since her fans were growing openly critical of the religious angles of her vampire books every since "Memnoch the Devil" was published.

On the whole, I've enjoyed most of Anne's earlier works, but it seemed she was turned into a publishing phenomenon (just like tired old hack Stephen King) who had to bring a new book out every October. Toward the end of her series the sense of having to meet a deadline was almost palpable in her books. Her novel featuring the Marius character was probably a low point for me because it was ten I started noticing the continuity errors that indicated she was just rushing through a book to meet a publication deadline.

All that said, I wish Anne the best of luck with her new series ... but I'm just not sure I can accompany her on this trip.

17. Not too surprising if you followed the Vampire Chronology
When "Interview with the Vampire" was written, Anne was an atheist. Her character Lestat reflected this...remember the "Savage Garden"? In "The Vampire Lestat", we learned more about Anne's searching through her character. While still in the agnostic-atheist stage, Lestat was not just braying about making the most of a hedonist lifestyle in the savage garden. He was also contemplating many philosophical questions about the meaning of life. In "The Queen of the Damned", the first glimpse of Anne acknowledging the possibility of something out there came. Remember when the Queen was blowing up the lesser vampires left and right? Lestat sensed the soul of at least one of them floating into another place...possibly into the light. "The Tale of a Body Thief" was an extension of that journey. In "Memnoch the Devil", we could see that Anne was indeed digging deeper in her spiritual quest. Fans of the Vampire Chronology can sense the progress of Anne's religious journey. Not too surprising at all.

24. Yeah, i agree with you there....
after Memnoch, she did a few character vampire creation novels, like pandora and her creation, marius....armand etc etc....I dont' find it surprising in the least. I think her worst books, that i have read so far, are Cry to Heaven, and Feast of All Saints, and the Vampire Armand...if you like gay porn, Vamp Armand is your novel....

21. Anne was on Charlie Rose the other night
It was an interesting interview about her latest book on the early life of Jesus. It didn't convince me to rush out and buy it, but I'll likely read it at some point.

Anne is now deeply devoted to Catholicism, but seems to have a more liberal outlook than the Vatican. She talked a lot about Jesus' message of loving one another (as opposed to the "legalistic" approach that so many Christian religions have adopted).

She said her new books will take the view that Jesus was literally the son of God. That's been a sticking point for me with the Christian faith. I tend to view Jesus as a man who taught a revolutionary message and ignore the mystical elements of the Gospells, so I will probably read the book with a bit of a skeptical eye. Still, it will be interesting to approach the topic from the standpoint of a novel rather than strictly Biblical/theological perspectives.

If someone does read the book, I hope they share they feelings about it with us.

25. Anne Rice, fundie?
No, Jeee-sus came to Miss Rice . Fundie-ism is a great career move for those who have spent a life doing gothic schlock, like Ms. Rice (a talented writer in some ways), or, ugh Alice Cooper (not a talented writer).
