1. No, but his Foucault's Pendulum was tedious but in the end rewarding
I'm NOT a fan of 'magical realism'. Good ole dogshit reality and nonfiction are bad enough.

Holy shit!

Hundreds of pages of narcissistic reflection on 60-year-old Italian fascist propaganda, followed by a few chapters of lengthy death-bed hallucination with no payoff?

I'm a great fan of Eco--I've read all of his novels and many of his essays, but this is just crap.

"It's all a dream" is the modern formulation of deus ex machina, and it's inexcusable.

Whew.
