I highly recommend "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"
by Jonathan Safran Foer.

My book club picked a great one this time.

This book is sweet, touching, sad and magical. It's about a precocious 9 year old boy whose father died in the WTC on 9/11 and what he does to cope with it. There is a parallel sub=plot about his grandparents living in Dresden when it was bombed in WWII.

Time magazine recently did a story wondering "Who is the voice of this generation" and in online voting this author won.

He also wrote "Everything Is Illuminated" which I have not read.

2. "Everything Is Illuminated" is a kick ass movie
Eugene Hutz, from the band Gogol Bordello, is fantastic as the tour guide.

Elijah Wood is also amazing.
