I need reading suggestions for my trip to Europe

I'll be spending time near Geneva, Switzerland; Essen, Germany; and Manchester, England. Can you suggest any novels that are tied to these areas? Also, can anyone suggest a book that places English novels in their regions? I'm thinking of something that'd tell me that this is the setting for Wuthering Heights or that is where the Mayor of Casterbridge was set. So far the only literary site I know I'm going to be near is Beatrix Potter's home.
