A lie in "God's politics"
I'm just finishing up "God's politics" by Jim Wallis. I'm glad I read it and it was mostly very interesting.

But there were several places where it seemed he used obvious exaggerations and small but key to my mind fabrications (purposely using a different term here) but most I just swallowed as "author's dramatic license" and I didn't keep track of them so I can't list specifics.

But as I finish I came across one that is really bugging me.

On pg 361 he tells a story of a protest (he doesn't say what they were protesting) where the group prayed in the captiol rotunda. And he claims the Police Sergeant called out over a bullhorn "You are not allowed to pray in the Rotunda of the United States Capitol!"

Good thing my son is asleep because I couldn't help but blurt out "Bullshit!"

Now I'm more than willing to believe they were unfairly kicked out. But the congress prays in the legislative chambers and he expects us to believe there's an injunction against praying in the rotunda??

Am I incorrect? Is it possible that someone has/can confirm or deny this story or the rules of the rotunda of the US Capitol?

1. Wish I could
I just finished it myself. Really liked it,gave me some hope that all the Xians are not loony. It did seem to me that he gave himself a lot of credit for a lot of things though.

As an agnostic (I don't have the courage of my non-conviction) I still am interested in "religious thinking." Just got "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris, looks interesting, check it out.

5. I would image...but praying?
I could see the police officer telling them they can't be there but to specifically say "no praying"

That's what I find hard to believe.

4. Only Shrub's supporters
are allowed to pray in the Capitol. Everyone else are heathens.

6. Well, congregating for prayer could cause a traffic problem.
The guard may have described their specific behavior when he was enforcing a broader rule, perhaps one regarding free flow of movement.
