Question about Noam Chomsky

I just read my first Chomsky book last week (Understanding Power). I must say I enjoyed it and found myself agreeing with most of his conclusions. I was wondering what others here think of Chomsky's works as I am new to him. Any recommendations?

2. Chomsky bases his writings and lectures on historical fact

For decades he has watched how the media has helped put a positive spin on American imperialism.

Corporate media has vilified him as a radical leftist cynic but he refused to lighten up on his criticism. Now that we are seeing his observations in the bright light of day, his writings don't seem radical to me at all.

For all the criticism he's made of our government, he still believes in America and encourages people to educate themselves and stay active in promoting good policies.

He's also one of the country's leading linguists and a very approacable and unpretentious person.

He has a weblog that he posts to frequently.

7. Chomsky is a linguist...that is all he is.

Take care when you are reading Chomsky. He is a ground-breaking linguist, but Chomsky is an idiot when it come to international economic systems theory. He has no background in most of the subjects he writes about. That would be fine if he was treated as an editorial writer. However, he is more often cited as an expert about things he knows nothing about.

So are you saying that in the last 40 or so years while he has been researching and writing books on politics, foreign policy, economics, the media etc. he still hasn't become an expert on most of the subjects he researches and writes about?

some of Chomsky's books are too terse and pedantic to be readable.

I love Chomsky, but I think Michael Parenti is a much better spoke man for many of the same ideas.
