A good escape for anyone who read Nancy Drew

is a book titled "Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women who created her." It tells the history of how the Nancy Drew books were written and the ghost writers who wrote them. It is very interesting, with a lot of good historical background to the politics and culture of the time periods involved.

1. I read every Nancy Drew and also every Trixie Belden....

I loved Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden. A few weeks ago I came across old Nancy Drew Movies that were made in 1938. They were so much fun to watch.

I will definitely check out the book about the writers of Nancy Drew.

Di was new money---her dad made a lot of money, I don't think the books ever said how.

5. Target sold a 99Cents Nancy Drew Mystery in a bin with lots of old movies

for the same price for stocking stuffers in December. It was from the '30's. It was really fun to watch! I didn't know that they made more than one ...I'll have to check out Amazon for the rest.

It was a great break from Politics...back to a more uncomplicated time...but anyone on DU must love mysteries...we are living in a huge one these days with so many twists and turns, one wonders if any of us will ever figure it all out. :D

Drew lover. I read some of Trixie Belden.

And also bought the old Nancy Drew DVDs from the Target bin, too! I didn't like the lead for the Nancy character, though. Too screechy.

The Stratemeyer Syndicate was located in Newark and one of the Nancy Drew writers lived in the town just next to mine. I recall, as a little girl, looking at the trees in the illustrations. Those trees line the streets of Maplewood, NJ and I think of Nancy every time I drive through there.

How funny. My husband went to Seton Hall University and lived in Maplewood for years. And I never knew that about the Nancy Drew books.

13. I heard about that book - when I was young and demanding Nancy Drews

everytime we walked into a store like a 10 year old crack addict, my father dragged me aside and hissed into my ear "Listen! Carolyn Keene is a fat little man who smokes a cigar!" It was a good try - but did nothing to diminish the craving.

I also read Trixie Belden, the Dana Girls, Cherry Ames, and the Bobbsey Twins(not as much). I would even occasionally dip into the Hardy Boys, but I really preferred the early "chick lit".

Trixie, Dana Girls, Cherry Ames and the Bobbsey Twins. What memories they bring back! Cherry Ames, the nurse. The Dana Girls I don't recall too much about but I know I read them. And Trixie Belden, I recall, had very colorful covers.

There was nothing like a Nancy Drew, though. My fondest childhood memories were when a new Nancy would come out and I would ride to the library on my bike to get it. Oh, those were the best days!

Last summer, my mother and I were in a used bookshop and she bought me some old Nancy Drews. I've been reading them and having a ball with them. I hadn't read any in some time and one thing I do recall thinking is how bold and brash Nancy was.

17. Nancy Drew is out in graphic novel form now

Graphic novels are all the rage at my son's middle school. I'm guessing they are new stories.
