Reading "Cronies"
I am reading Robert Bryce's book "Cronies". Even though the book is interesting I do not agree with his conclusion. Bryce had concluded that Texas is a "superstate" and it has influence over the decisions made in the country.

I contend Byrce's conclusion is wrong. I just do not believe Texas is the most powerful state in the country. I do not believe it runs American politics. I think California has a tighter hold on America's phsyche, politics, and wallet. Many of the legislation and rules that are passed in California, both those concerning economics and those concerning politics are followed by the nation as a whole. It is not the same with Texas. In addition, I do not think people have to win Texas to win the presidential election.

Byrce used the fact that three of the last few presidents have come from Texas. Considering he makes such a big deal about the number of presidents who came from Texas just the fact that New York produced about 11 presidents I would think New York would be considered as having more clout than Texas.
