Not sure where to put this post: GLBT, sports or nonfiction books
I am in the process of reading another book that I bought at Borders. It's title is "Out of Bounds" by Roy Simmons. Mr Simmons was an offensive lineman with the Giants, Redskins and the Jacksonville Bulls of the USFL. He also played while harboring a huge secret.

Mr Simmons tells about when he was a young boy, he was raped at the hands of a neighbor. In the end, he and one of his friends exacts revenge on that neighbor. All the names have been changed. Eventually, Roy found his was to abusing drugs and alcohol. He was also sexually promiscuous and would swing both ways. What I found amazing about Roy frequenting a number of gay men's clubs or bath houses, the patrons never outed him. Professional athletes are public figures. In New York and Los Angeles, professional athletes are further down on the celebrity food chain.

The whole time while playing football, nobody knew this 290 lb offensive lineman was gay. Eventually, Roy found himself out of professional football and employed as a baggage handler at JFK International Airport.

Mr Simmons is one of three former NFLers who have come out of the closet. Unfortunatly, he is also HIV positive. If you do care anything about the rights of GLBTs, please read this book. I must warn you, it is sexually graphic.
