Hello all,
I tried this in the "World History" group but had no responses, so I thought I'd give it a try here.
I'm looking for a good volume on the history of Poland. I've tried "God's Playground" by Norman Davies. I got through Vol I, but I'm really struggling with Vol II.
These are good books in their way, lots of good information and I liked the approach Davies took in Vol I (although the level of detail on individuals is part of the trouble I have with it). The second volume however, seems to take a more traditional approach and still involves wading through an incredible amount of detail on individuals and events the author seems to assume I should know about ( perhaps I should be I must admit I don't ).
So I'm looking for something that would take a similar approach to Vol I, examining the cultural influences, and political currents over time but perhaps from a bigger picture level than Davis' vol I.
on edit: forgot the "d" at the end of Poland
