ONE DEAD IN THE ATTIC - (Katrina)
If you want a short, concise read about the goings on in New Orleans shortly after the Hurricane hit check out the book on the subject line by Times-Picayune reporter Chris Rose. Its a personal chronicle written by an eyewitness.

Very well written; personal
Heart wrenching
The pics are extremely telling

Should be required reading for every "conservative" in this country.

6. Just read it!
It was a fantastic chronicle, and the story about "the cat lady" was particularly moving. Hadn't really read much of Chris Rose before but this seems to have really brought some great storytelling gifts out of him -- he put a lot of soul and care for the city into the articles. I'll have to check out some of his archived stuff on the T-P Website.

I'm reading one of the Neighborhood Story Project books right now called "The Combination" -- focuses on the Lafitte area of town and what it's like to grow up in that housing project. Also excellent, told from the perspective of a young woman who interviews the everyday people from the neighborhood. It was written before Katrina, which makes it all the more poignant. Here's a link to more info on it if anyone is interested: http://www.neighborhoodstoryproject.org.
