I'm looking for a book about exciting roads to drive

There are plenty of guides to scenic highways, but I'm looking for a book about America's best roads to really push driving skills and ram up the wow factor! I know about "The Dragon" in eastern Tennessee. I'm hoping to find a guide that lists more stretches of road like this. Any suggestions?

I lived in Cleveland when I was just out of college. I worked in Euclid, but lived on the west side. I-90 was a battlefield every night!

6. Don't have a guide but here's a couple of my favorites..

The "road" from Ouray to Lake City, and be sure to start from Ouray, over Engineer Pass in Colo. or if you want to get white knuckles on blacktop try Utah's 12 from Boulder to Escalante!

9. UT-12 is awesome

Driving on that fin-like spine over canyon country. I was just there a year ago. The descent from Boulder Mountain is beautiful too, with all those views to the south.

I drove through Ouray and Lake City on one vacation, but never took the road between the two. We hiked in that area, though.

12. Like Independence Pass

east of Aspen. But I think it may be closed in winter. We were up there in September a few years ago, going from CS to Aspen with a side trip for lunch in Leadville. I was driving and Hubby asked if I wanted him to take over but I said no. He's ohhing and ahhing over the pretty leaf colors but all I can see is the car in front of us and the 90 million foot drop off the right side.:o

5. It's a Christmas gift for a friend

who has souped up a Honda Del Sol. Brembo brakes, aluminum wheels and goofy Z rated Toyo tires. Not the heavy SUV type of winter driving vehicle for the truly treacherous roads, but big fun on smooth, dry pavement with lottsa curves!

10. don't know about book, but I have driven a couple of good ones

from Yellowstone's northeast entrance up through Montana, then take the Chief Dan Joseph Highway over to Cody...OH MY GOD!!!! It is called the Beartooth for a reason. Do drive it in the daytime, I drove it at night in a Subaru Outback with a manual override and it was fun but hairy.

Actually just driving around Yellowstone in the northern half of the park is a trip and a half!!!!!

another good one is the High Road to Taos from Santa Fe, drove this one on a very rainy day, we were in the clouds most of the way

Skyline Drive in Virginia is supposed to be a good one, but I have not personally driven it.

My husband is working in Cody right now so I will have a chance to do it. Last time I went up we went South on our free day.

14. Sad, tragic story

Back in the spring/summer of '81 I spent a few months in Colorado Springs (went there from Florida). In late April I was invited to a party by a co-worker and heard a guy talking about something that had happened the previous December. A friend had borrowed one of his two cars to take care of some personal business. When she didn't return it after a couple of days he called the cops. He hated to get her into trouble but was worried and didn't know how else to find her. At the time of the party the police hadn't found any trace of her. About a month later a guy was riding horseback below Victor Pass between CS and Cripple Creek (south side of Cheyenne Mt) and came upon a car with a body inside. Evidently she'd gone off the gravel road.

Highway 101 in CA.

One of the best times that I ever had driving was in the Death Valley natl mon. The roads are two lane, and during the Xmas holidays were empty. Though they are in a flatter area, some are like roller coasters, and the paving is questionable. Take it over 100 for the thrills, and there's not much chance of being caught by a federale at that time of year.
