New KHepburn biography is fiction. |

I read the excerpts in Vanity Fair and the author - William Mann - completely fabricates the contents of her FBI file. I know, I have a copy of the file and nothing he says is in it is there.
If he'll lie about the contents of a public document, why should I believe anything else he says?
I'm surprised so many reviewers are swallowing it whole. So much of what he says has no basis in fact. Why would George Cukor need to have sex with garage attendants? It makes no sense at all.
ps. He says EVERYONE in Hollywood was gay.

1. I'm with you on the fake biography thing |
|
though I am beginning to think that everyone is gay, to the extent that there are a lot of people out there who are, but who don't say. Here are some of my top guesses (not all living):
Oprah Tony Randall Jodie Foster Anderson Cooper Karl Rove Dennis Miller

In the grand scheme of things, the idea that Hepburn might have done the Wild Thing with a women seems to be the least of this book's crimes. The stuff saying Tracy was gay - and that's why he drank - is insanity. Mann ignores the genetic basis - the fact that Tracy's father and brother were both heavy drinkers. And his depression problem.
I think sexuality can be a continuum and I think very sexual people are more likely to have tried it with both sexes. But Mann is saying that all her relationships with men were basically platonic and those with women, physical. Hepburn was a serial monogomist - with men.

4. That's what I thought, but when I tried to tell people about Cooper |

I couldn't find any evidence, just speculation.

5. You'd think a publisher like Henry Holt... |
|
would attempt to make sure some of the materials in books they publish are true.
I mean, the guy lies about the contents of a public document. Why should I believe his accounts of interviews with folks who I've never heard of who have died?
