Anyone read, Zel Millers book...
"A National Party No More: The Conscience of Conservative Democrat?"

I read some reviews on Amazon and they mostly describe book as anti-democrat. I dont understand why a democrat would right an anti-democratic book. I consider myself be more center rather than farrrr left. So, I figured it would be a good book for me to read by the name. Anyways any help is appreciated.

4. Zell Miller, "Conservative Democrat"...
took the stage at the 1992 Democratic convention and RIPPED into Poppy Bush for not caring about health insurance for the poor, etc., etc.

No, Zell, the party didn't leave you. You left the party.

5. Basically, it's not a Democrat who wrote an anti-democrat book.
It's Zellot Miller who wrote an anti-Democrat book.
There is a difference.

I am reading Alan Colmes book right now. I just recently really got a strong interest in politics. Ive been voting sine 2002 (when I turned 18). Ive voted Democratic everytime execpt for once. I made a mistake and voted for Ehrlich as Govenor of Maryland. My dad, grandfather and neighbor pushed the democratic views on me and I just went along with it. But now I am begginning to understand that I really do agree with the Democratic message but I would just like some material to read to better educate myslef about the party and what we stand for. Also, I want to be able to cut down my goof ball friends when they claim Republican is the way to go if you want to keep your hard earned money and keep this country safe. It was suggested that I read "We're right, They're wrong" by James Carville but it wasnt in at my library so I put it on hold and decided to get Alan Colme's book "Red, White, and Liberal" to hold me over untill it comes in.

10. Read Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas"
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 04:59 PM by Strawman
Just happens to be the book of the month for the DU Bookclub. It's a quick read and will arm you with lots of arguments to counter your Republican buddies. The basic premise is that alot working people are being hoodwinked by a bunch of hot air about social issues into voting Republican against their own economic interests. I wouldn't call it "far left" political writing by any stretch either, besides that's a meaningless label that is way overused on anyone who fails to parrot the extreme right viewpoint these days. Mostly Frank's book is just common sense about why bread and butter issues should matter to working people and why the Democrats haven't been able to connect with voters on them in places like Kansas where you have middle class, working poor and unemployed people voting for the kinds of policies that will make them less secure and benefit only the rich because of their cultural resentments. A good example is all the stink that's been made about Hollywood stars campaigning for Kerry. Don't like Barbara Streisand for some reason? Think Hollywood "limousine liberals" are "phony" and/or "annoying"? Well great guess what? If you voted for Bush, you just voted for a guy who cut her taxes and cut back revenue sharing for your state government to pay for it, which means that they'll have to lay off police officers or raise your property taxes in your community. Maybe Barbara will spend that extra money on a new diamond collar for one of her toy poodles. It's a good book.
