Invasion of the Party Snatchers-How the Holy-Rollers and Neocons Destroyed GOP
From Amazon.com

As a man who served as press aide to Barry Goldwater and speechwriter and senior advisor to and was coauthor of George H. W. Bush's autobiography, Victor Gold is absolutely furious that the Neo-Cons and their strange bedfellows, the Evangelical Right, have stolen his party from him. Now he is out to bring the fight to them.

In a blistering critique not only of the Bush-Cheney administration but the Republican Congress, Gold reveals, among other explosive things, how George W. has been manipulated by his Vice President and Secretary of Defense to become, in Lenin's famous phrase, a "useful idiot" for Neo-Conservative warmongers and Theo-Conservative religious fanatics.

After four decades as a Republican insider, Victor Gold is ready to tell all: from how the GOP was really taken over to what George H. W. really thinks about his son, the useful idiot.

About the Author

Victor Gold was a speechwriter for Bush Sr. and was a prominent Goldwater disciple. He is a personal friend of the Bush family and many other prominent politicians. His previous books include Looking Forward, the autobiography of George H. W. Bush, and a satirical fiction, The Body Politic, coauthored with Lynne Cheney. He is national correspondent for Washingtonian magazine.

2. Sounds like his timing might be a little off
With very few possible exceptions, there hasn't been any sign of sanity coming from the Republican party since the Reaganite crowd took it over with the 1980 election...

3. The GOP is beyond redemption
They need to take it behind the barn and finish the job.
It's been deep burned into me - by the GOP - that they are the enemies of everything decent in the world.
They are a pack of vicious, greedy scumbags who see themselves as 21st century nobility.
I'd like to treat them to a session in the wine cellar of the summer palace.

5. He loses all credibility
by coauthoring a book with Lynne Cheney. She is one of the worst examples of those who have taken over that party.

Let someone else waste their time reading this book.

6. I call Bullshit.!!!.
George Bush has executed the 'conservative' agenda. Now that Bush has proven 'conservative ideology' to be a complete failure, the rats are scurrying to jump from the ship. Bush is the fall-guy for their failed ideology. 'Conservatives' are going to throw Bush overboard soon to protect their illusion.

It's not the person, but the ideology that is the question.

7. That lot is Ayn Rand with Jesus. But not one anyone else could recognize.
Ubermenschen, indeed!

They are all past due for a secular rapture after their earthly tribulation.

A=A, after all. . .

8. You all have quite likely
already read this one but if not: I thoroughly recommend "Kingdom Coming" by Michelle Goldberg; updated edition includes her observations on the 2006 election.

Another good read is "Thy Kingdom Come: How the Religious Right Distorts the Faith and Threatens America" by Randall Balmer

just my 2 cents...
