1. Hey, I have that book!
I've read parts of it and it's very good. Personal stories. One I remember was that when "the war is over" was announced some soliders were so excited they fired their guns in the air and the bullets came back down and killed some of them.

Another interesting story is from Milton Caniff who was the cartoonist for the "Terry and Pirates" comic strip. He was doing a Dragon Lady series who was a pirate queen off mainland China and his boss told him to lay off the political stuff until Pearl Harbor. Milton would make up stuff and the war department came after him thinking he knew "something" secret which Milton did not. Very interesting all the stories. Makes you see WWII in the true light vs. some John Wayne crap.

3. Today is Studs birthday
He is 95 , and will no doubt soon be gone . He was on Democracy Now with Amy Goodman today and he is still as fascinating as ever. He is living breathing history, and a s progressives we should be listening to him , and benefiting from his wisdom
