Boyer's book is somewhat dated (1993), but only to the degree that more has since been published regarding this subject: Timothy Weber's "On the Road to Armageddon" (2004), and "The End of Days" by Gershom Gorenberg (2000) come immediately to mind. "Kingdom Coming" by Michelle Goldberg" (2006) and "American Fascists" by Chris Hedges (2006) also provide sections of valuable insight in this arena.

Boyer's work remains powerful and effective, in that it examines American culture and politics directly through the lens of apocalyptic belief, with special emphasis on the Cold War and post Cold War years. It is in-depth and reads beautifully.

Anyone wanting to educate themselves on the worldview of those who are playing a large role in America's current "culture war" would be well served by reading this work.

I have "A History of the End of the World" about the book of Revelation but haven't read it yet.

"A History of the End of the World" deals with how Revelation has been applied over the centuries. If that interest you, have a look at "Naming the Antichrist" by Robert Fuller.
