well...has anyone read "The Creationists" by Dr. Ron Numbers?
Dr. Numbers teaches History at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). His primary field of study is in the history of science.

Raised in a 4th generation conservative church family (Seventh-day Adventist)he left the church in early adulthood, pursuing an interest in History and Science.

"The Creationists" documents the attempts by Biblical "literalists" (or maximalists, if you prefer) to either harmonize the theories
of Darwinism with the biblical worldview, or, to "scientifically" champion a literal 6-day creation with discoveries being made in the sciences, especially relating to the geologic column. He pays special attention to the efforts of George McCreedy Price, an "armchair geologist" who might well be considered the "father" of the Creation Science" movement.

He also documents the actions and controversy surrounding production of "The Genesis Flood" a work which has been open to harsh criticism, but is an old standard of the Creationist movement.

Numbers lays out the beginnings and development of "Creation Science", and discusses it's potential negative impact on science education in the schools.

Ronald Numbers is a recognized authority in the History of Science, writes with an "insider's" perspective on Fundamentalism (and thus avoids some common misconceptions), and reads beautifully.
