Can anyone recommend a book about Holland?
Looking for a good history about the tullip craze and maybe a good history. It seems they were pretty tolerant of other's beliefs, so much so that those pilgrims high-tailed it out of there to cold rocky Plymouth. I read somewhere that the pilgrims thought the Dutch were awful for kissing their children goodnight.

1. Well....what's taking so long?!!
All you bookworms out there and not one recommendation?! I've seen a few in old bookstores but the stores are gone. But, hey...in another old bookstore I saw (fiction)a 1946 version of Hans Brinker and His Silver Skates in mint condition with color plates for $20 which I'll get soon if no one else discoveres it.

2. Cant tell you about books in English
(the ones I read were in Dutch) but the book "The UnDutchables" presents how two non-Dutchies (one American, one British IIRC) view some aspects of contemporary Holland. Quite amusing. The Dutch like it too.

5. You might try asking over at Abe Books online
They have some forums for finding all sorts of books. I've even looked for obscure books no longer in print and have found help in every case. So finding some books with your specific interest ought to be a piece of cake for the Abe denizens.

Good luck!

7. I read Tulipomania a while back
Tulipomania: The Story of the World's Most Coveted Flower & the Extraordinary Passions It Aroused." Mike Dash (2001)

It's concise.

There's an article by the same name by Anne Goldgar that says the whole thing was presented as much bigger than it was (this was 2007 - I haven't read it.)

Charles Mackay's book that first popularized "tulipomania" is available at Project Guttenberg.

8. Try "The Black Tulip"
It is by Andre Dumas and is fiction, but I think it is quite true to Holland. There might be resources in the book that will take you further.
