Elizabeth Edwards Was Abusive, Says New Book
Most American women have found themselves with a soft spot for Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former U.S. Presidential candidate John Edwards, whose lovechild and affair have made him one of the most scandalous names in the history of politics. But a new book by political analysts John Heilemann and Mark Halperin reveals that just maybe Elizabeth Edwards wasn't a total victim...

Elizabeth Edwards has been regarded for some time with a "saintly ... public persona," according to Heilemann and Halperin's book Game Change. But with new reports that she was "an abusive, intrusive, paranoid condescending crazy woman" who belittled her "intellectually inferior" husband, our perception of Mrs. Edwards may begin to take a bit of a turn.

When Edwards found out about her husband's affair with Rielle Hunter, who's now the mother of John Edwards' confirmed lovechild, Game Change says Elizabeth Edwards opened her blouse in front of her husband's staffers and screamed, "Look at me!" It's said she was "sobbing" and "incoherent," nearly falling on the ground. It's also said that she went through early denial about the possibility that her husband was the father of Rielle Hunter's child. "I have to believe ," Elizabeth is quoted saying. "Because if I don't, it means I'm married to a monster."

8. Mark Halperin has really gone off
the fucking deep end. He almost singlehandely turned Time magazine into a TMZ wannabe and now he pens this POS tome. How anyone can take this asshole seriously is beyond me. I don't care if he's trashing Edwards, Palin, McCain or Obama, it's a garbage book and the trees would have been a lot better off being allowed to soak up CO2.

15. The Thought Just Occurred To Me That Your Reaction Might Be Exactly What Was Intended.,...
Hear me out. What if the McCain staffers were really going to blow the lid off Palin and discredit her so much that she wouldn't stand even a prayer of a chance to be a presidential candidate in 2012.

How would her supporters prevent that.

Well one way is to put out a book that beats others to the punch - but fill it with so much BS about others - so that people have the reaction your are having. It also provides Palin protection. She can just say what they wrote about her was BS seeing that this is what people are thinking this book is.

So the truth can be put out there - hide it amongst other BS - and by the power of association - people believe that what they wrote about Palin is BS as well.

Just a thought.

19. Not a bad theory
although I don't think Halperin would be bright enough to compose it, maybe he's just a dupe. I used to love Time magazine, had it for years and then Halperin comes along, canceling it really felt good.

9. Have a heart and delete this post.
I still love and respect Elizabeth Edwards no matter what is said about her. Even if all of this was true, she's a freaking human being, frightened, and feeling utterly abandoned. And top it all off with this hateful gossip. This is all she needs. Let this die. Please, please, if you have a heart, delete this post! There but for the grace of God, and so on, ya know?

16. just reading the snippet posted, i say
"so what?!"..When these guys get breast cancer, and then get it again and it's incurable, and they've been through chemo and how it even changes your cognition, then..well, then they'll see the behavior as understandable. Cancer is an emotional rock bottom, and she gets hit with this at her worst...and her worst is terminal...she can go nuts in my book all she wants.

20. To get all technical, it wasn't curable the first time she had it, either.
They didn't cure it the first time, they just put it into remission for a while. No breast cancer is ever "curable." I wish they'd stop tossing that phrase "NOW she has INCURABLE breast cancer" around about Elizabeth Edwards. All breast cancer is incurable; it's only considered "cured" if you eventually die of something else first.

Anyway, I don't know how much of this stuff to believe about her. I don't think anyone's a saint anyway, but this book paints her as one of the most insufferable shrews ever to plague mankind.

25. Doesn't sound like a fair characterization
The problem is in a rocky marriage (even a healthy one) it would be pretty easy to pull out quite a few incidents where one person acted like a complete ass or unthinkingly said something cruel, and really paint a horrible picture of that person based on a few incidents rather than looking at their whole character.

The example given didn't seem like an abusive condecending crazy woman at all:

'When Edwards found out about her husband's affair with Rielle Hunter, who's now the mother of John Edwards' confirmed lovechild, Game Change says Elizabeth Edwards opened her blouse in front of her husband's staffers and screamed, "Look at me!" It's said she was "sobbing" and "incoherent," nearly falling on the ground. It's also said that she went through early denial about the possibility that her husband was the father of Rielle Hunter's child. "I have to believe ," Elizabeth is quoted saying. "Because if I don't, it means I'm married to a monster."'

Can you imagine how psychologically damaging it would be to be trying to be the "good wife" while facing a deadly medical condition, having a politician husband with all the political baggage that comes with that, and then find hes gone out and impregnated some other woman while you're fighting cancer? I can't think of too many people that could behave cool and rational all the time under those circumstances (denial seems like it would be a pretty normal initial reaction too me). Maybe it's just me, but she sounds like someone in a great deal of pain in this example. Staffers supplying this kind of info to someone writing a tabloid type expose tells me alot about the kind of support she got from the people around her too.

18. Either way who cares...
I will never understand why people get obsessed with the personal lives of politicians, it's childish and typically american.
