Enemy at the Gates: The Battle for Stalingrad by William Craig
This is a terrific book about a segment of WWII I was always curious about but never knew much about and the books on the subject were rather dry and long until I found this one. The cover of the PB with the two actors from the movie on the front is horrid and does not do the book justic. In fact I had to go online to print out my own cover I hated it so much. In a nutshell that dumb jerk Hilter just let the 6th Army die and cared nothing for them at all. Guess the goon forgot about what happened to Napoleon when he tried to subdue the Russians.

1. The novel version, War of the Rats, is also a good - and educational - read...

about this key battle.

Now, you're ready for "The Greatest Battle: The Battle for Moscow," which actually took longer and involved more troops. The history of it was suppressed because it makes Stalin look naive and stupid.

2. As I recall, the only relationship between the book and the movie
was location.

6. It was a good long while ago, but I don't remember the book
having much to do with sniper vs. sniper.

5. I've always been interested in that period, and 2 months ago,
I finally got my hands on one of the Mosin Nagant rifles (A 1933 Izhevsk) for my collection.

9. Then you might find this book and this movie of interest.

This movie makes SAVING PRIVATE RYAN look tame...

Stalingrad (1993)

A depiction of the brutal battle of Stalingrad, the Third Reich's 'high water mark', as seen through the eyes of German officer Hans von Witzland and his battalion.
