Then Everything Changed
by Jeff Greenfield.

Excellent, interesting book. Even though it's something of an alternate history, it's not a novel, and is published as non-fiction. Because Jeff Greenfield is a political writer, he sticks as completely closely to the actual facts, even when he's deep into the alternate version of things.

He has JFK being assassinated on December 11, 1960, something that almost actually happened.

He has RFK not being assassinated in June, 1968.

And he has Ford being re-elected in 1976.

2. I likewise love alternate history.
I must you, this isn't like the usual ones. Greenfield keeps very close to what really did happen, and introduces as few changes as possible. I am fond of the ones where the author goes off on flights of fancy, after assuming some kind of change. This is like reading a poly-sci book, and if you didn't already know how things worked out in reality, you'd think it was a somewhat boring book on political history.

I am not finding it boring at all.

3. Thanks for the warning, but that's right up my alley.
I will recommend back, the two volumes of "What Ifs?" of history.
