Do As Infinity is a popular Japanese band which debuted on September 29, 1999 with the release of their first single, "Tangerine Dream". Their name is sometimes abbreviated as D.A.I., revealing that Do As Infinity was named after the band's guitarist and composer, Dai Nagao. With the release of their A-side compilation album Do the A side, Do As Infinity disbanded on September 29, 2005, after a career which spanned six years, six albums, twenty singles, seven compilation albums and eight live DVDs. The band reformed on September 29, 2008, and reportedly will have their first new release in spring 2009


The popular band Do As Infinity are back together. The group made a surprise appearance at a-nation to break the news, though it was also revealed on their official website



Led by vocalist Tomiko Van, the group was active between 1999 and 2005. This past spring, the group’s members and staff met again, and they began discussing the possibility of a reunion. They chose September 29 2008 as the date they would officially resume activities, starting with a free show at Yoyogi Park on September 30 2008.

The band plans to focus on live performances in the future, but they also aim to release new material next spring in 2009.

And here, I want to mention the episode that led to their regrouping.
It was the Christmas Eve of 2007, a period during which all of them were hard at work with their solo activities. It all began with a phone call from Oowatari to Ban, who was having dinner with her friends. And with that call, Oowatari managed to get a table next to hers, and they met up with each other for the first time in a long while. They were both riled up talking about their current situations and their memories of the past (to be precise, the phone call was made on the night of the 23rd, and Oowatari joined tables with Ban after midnight).



And then, 2008, after that meeting that seemed like "a gift from Santa Claus". This time, it was a chance encounter, the two of them meeting at the gym which Ban goes to.



And perhaps it was a coincidence as well, but that spring, the members and their staff had a meeting. And there, there was talk of a regrouping, and from around early summer there were many discussions held with regards to that issue.

In July, it was decided by the staff and band members that they would reform. And that led to their appearance on the Tokyo leg of a-nation '08.




Starting with free lives, they'll be concentrating on performing for a while, with plans to release a new work in the spring of 2009. And their music, which had once disappeared, is now beginning to regain its glimmer and shine.
