I saw it last night and it was very poignant. I highly recommend it.
It tugs on every emotion and is shocking, humorous and tragic all at once.

1. It was good, but he played his usual "Angry Old Dude" role.

13. In what other movies was he an "angry old dude"?
I love Clint in his many roles but don't remember this.

3. It deserves recognition.
I saw it last night as well. Though it's not on a level with "Unforgiven", it's certainly one of his better films and well worthwhile.

4. This is one of the strongest fields in years. You could make that case for several actors.
Eastwood has played a very similar character very well for forty years, so I guess voters passed him over this time.

6. Yes, it was a strong field
I haven't seen "Doubt" yet, but I'm told Philip Seymour Hoffman was wonderful.

In a different year, Clint would have been nominated. The competition this year was just too strong.

5. Clint was good, but it was a tired old tale that's been done a thousand times before

10. I think this was Eastwood's best film portraying the Dirty Harry / Man with no name persona
Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 05:08 PM by crimsonblue
However, the acting by the Hmong characters was sub-par, especially the boy. When he was screaming after being locked in the basement, it was completely unbelievable and really hurt the entire movie. That being said, Eastwood was simply amazing. He doesn't seem to be acting; rather, he is his characters.

12. You know who else was robbed?
Richard Dreyfus should have gotten a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his deadly accurate portrayal of Dick Cheney in "W."
