That is the number 7. It is, so far, unaccounted for among the cylon models we've been introduced to. The list, as I've seen it, goes like this:
1. Cavil 2. Leoben 3. D'Anna 4. "Simon" (the doctor Kara Thrace met on cylon-occupied Caprica) 5. Aaron (we don't see him much, but he is one of the models currently with Cavil) 6. "Natalie" and various other Six models, including what I call Baltar's "Head Six" 7.? 8. Boomer/Sharon/Athena, etc.
Now the, "final five, in no particular order, since no numbers have been assigned to them in the show (so far):
9. Sam Anders 10. Tory Foster 11. Galen Tyrol 12. Saul Tigh 13. Ellen Tigh
If you look at it like this, there IS a missing number, because it doesn't make logical sense for just ONE of the final five to be included in the previous group as the missing #7. Seen this way, the total does equal 13. There are many theories out there about this. Some think the "7" may turn out to have been a flawed model, or a model that was "boxed" (like D'Anna) for one reason or another. OR it may be Kara Thrace/Starbuck. OR there may be a 13th (there are 13 colonies) that we have not yet been formally introduced to.
I tend to think that if there is a 13th cylon, it won't be Starbuck. I think that's just too easy, and the I don't think the writers will go there. I could be wrong, but that would just be not up to par with what we've seen so far from these writers. I think Kara Thrace is something wholly different.
***POSSIBLE SPOILER?***
Ron Moore has hinted in interviews that there IS a "God" in the BSG universe, that there is a spiritual element we have not yet seen. In the original series (which I didn't watch, so this is from what I've read), there were "Beings of Light," called Seraphs, that had an angelic quality to them. Personally, I think this may be what Kara/Starbuck turns out to be. There have been hints of this, from Leoben, who is the most "spiritual" of the cylons. On the Demetrius, he told her that she appeared to him as an angel surrounded by light (paraphrased), and in the recent premiere episode, he appeared to have come to some realization about Kara that scared him. He actually ran away from her when it was discovered that there were TWO bodies--one alive, one dead. If he knew her to be a cylon, then what would he fear? But if he realized in that moment that she is something totally different, something not human OR cylon, and something very powerful, he might be afraid.
Hope that helps some! :) All of the above is, of course, JMHO. ;)
