Pageant Paid For Miss Calif. Implants

Carrie Prejean, whose comments opposing same-sex marriage during last month's Miss USA pageant still have tongues wagging, had breast augmentation surgery just weeks before that competition, Miss California Pageant Co-Director Keith Lewis confirmed on The Early Show Friday. He also said reports that the Miss California pageant helped foot the bill for the operation were true.

Prejean wound up as runner-up to Miss North Carolina for the Miss USA crown.

Lewis told co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez the Miss California pageant "assisted when Carrie came to us, and voiced the interest in having the procedure done." ....


"It's not something that we endorse, nor is it something that we suggest," Lewis continued. "But when we meet with the title-holder, when she's crowned Miss California, we put to her a litany of questions about how she feels about herself, what she feels she needs to work on, what she may need to change, what is good, what is not good. We want to put her in the best possible confidence in order to present herself in the best possible light on a national stage."

OK, I've got mixed feelings about this. If a woman wants a boob job, fine, it's her body. On the other hand, it seems really really weird that the Miss California pageant would be paying for a contestants implants. Not to mention the fact that, IMHO, it's sending the wrong message to our daughters about being happy with the body God gave them.

or gotten the money from elsewhere. She managed to win the state pageant with the chest that she had. This not looks bad ethically, but stinks of collusion between the state and national pageants, too.

I guess times have changed. I agree--I cannot understand why the pageant would pay for implants. If they allow contestants to enter with fake boobs, okay, but why pay for them?

On the other hand, I don't think that this is my business. Honestly, I could not care less if she has fake ones or real ones. I personally believe that fake breasts look...fake and therefore, awful. Once in a blue moon, a woman gets a nice set, but it sure is rare. And I do think that risking one's health to conform to some arbitrary ideal is foolish. But who cares what I think? I am just another person with another opinion.
